My name is Jacqueline DePaul, I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics and work as a consultant in the IT/Telecommunications Industry. At age 38 I began searching for a new creative outlet and on a whim decided to try fashion modeling.
- I played around with it for a few years using my business skills to negotiate volunteer modeling opportunities for both photo shoots and runway shows.
- At age 41 entered and won the 2011 Wilhelmina modeling agency 40+ national model search.
- Joining the beautiful girls on the Wilhelmina modeling board, I started “real” modeling, booked my first catalog job, and failed miserably.
- I decided to learn what real models actually do, hiring my photographer friend who modeled herself for 20 years, to teach me how to catalog model and how to model with my face.
- I continued to find other opportunities for myself, including shooting campaigns for Requisite Clothing, SUDZZfx, and Stiletto Clothing.
- I launched the Yellow Brick Runway blog and began organizing collaboration photo shoots with the goal of getting published in magazines. We created “The Anguished Bride” and “Celebrity Revitalization”. Both stories were successfully published.
- I’m not Madonna, so it was highly unlikely that H&M or BCBG would hire me for a their campaign, so I made my own. I also produced a vintage train station editorial inspired by my French grandmother.
- I did a shoot with “hard light, which is extremely hard light from the side, just to experience what it would do and learn from it.
I am now 48 and I continue to explore what we can do with fashion and “older ladies”. It can be quite comical really, trying to figure out story lines that make sense in the world of youth-oriented fashion.
I’m not trying to be the next Gisele Bundchen or Karlie Kloss- these beauties deserve every accolade that they get from their adoring public- nor to be the most beautiful, the youngest, or the thinnest. My passion is simply inspired by expressing myself artistically in the beautiful world of fashion. I don’t attach much importance to who likes or doesn’t like what I’m doing.
Heck, I’m almost 50. I wonder what I’m going to do at that point!
My goal for this blog is to give you an intimate and engaging look at how we work together to bring our inspirations to fruition, and my wish is that it will inspire you to chase your own passions and dreams.
Onwards and Upwards!
Sincerely, Jacqueline
